So now that 2020 is behind us and 2021 is here, what are you doing differently? Did you make new year resolutions? Did you take time to reflect on 2020 and what you could’ve done differently or was it such a treacherous year that you don’t even want to think about it?

Well, I will share with you where I am. I am taking time to focus on myself that includes my personal and business goals. I am learning how to say “no” in a way that doesn’t leave me feeling guilty or in bondage to people that I love. I began the year off taking daily naps and they have been beneficial and felt so good. I can’t tell you the last time I just laid in my bed and did absolutely nothing, thought about nothing, and I didn’t feel like I was losing time. I gave myself permission to do exactly what my body wanted and needed to do.

I decided that I wasn’t going to make new year resolutions as I have new year’s eve night for the last 20 something years. I made up in my mind that I was making life changes (I process this as a long-term commitment and not just something that goes along with “traditions”). I have several life changes, but one that I am super proud of is joining a fitness group and committed to going 4 days a week back on Dec. 6th. For me, I didn’t want to wait until the new year because then I would feel like it was a “traditional resolution” I wanted to jump into it right away. This is has been a challenge for me to commit to for years because I made excuses (to thine ownself be true), although some were reasonable, of why I didn’t have time, couldn’t go, couldn’t afford to, so on and so forth. This time, I paid for 3 months of training up front and found a trainer committed to helping me help myself. The fact that he loves old school music was a bonus for me. Now, I am over a month in and feel like I am missing a part of my day when I can’t make it to a class. I told myself that I am going to treat this class like therapy, “gotta have it “!

On NYE night, my daughters and I fell asleep each sharing all of the wonderful things that we were grateful for in 2020, not taking light to the challenges that many had during the year, but wanting to focus on the good. We also set our intentions for 2021 and affirmed positive things to happen in our lives. I am so thankful to God for His grace and mercy over my family and friends during such a challenging year that affected all of us in some way or the other! I challenge you to take time to focus on the good things, if you haven’t already, from 2020 and take time to set your intentions for 2021. It’s never too late to start!
